Arno Bleeker, 1980, born in Beverwijk, works and lives in Amsterdam

A big part of my work has its roots in music. My record collection consists of medieval polyphonic songs till the latest electronic music and everything inbetween. By listening to these songs day by day the music determines my state of mind, or sometimes the other way around. The songs trigger my visual world. You wouldn’t say so by looking at my pieces but it is almost always a song or a lyrical sentence  that ‘s the seed for the eventual work. When a song penetrates my mind other interests might bond with it. Social issues, books, personal stories, form and material will define the shape of the work of art. So when I am finished there is no direct connection between the art piece and the song anymore. It has to stand on its own and be its own story.​​​​
